  3. <hi style=afpcap>The two Curtiss R-6s produced for the 1922 Pulitzer Price race were placed first and second. Four days after the race, legendary aviator General Billy Mitchell flew the second example to set a world one kilometre speed record of 224 mph. Both R-6s were flown in subsequent Pulitzer races, although one crashed during the 1924 event. </hi>
